We are very lucky to have Steve Waterman playing for us on this wonderful evening. Steve is one of the top British jazz trumpet players both at home and on the international scene. He began his career while studying at Trinity College Of Music, and since then has worked regularly on the British, European and International jazz scene.
Steve has recorded many critically acclaimed CDs under his own name and has worked with John Surman’s Brass Project recording a CD on the ECM label THE BRASS PROJECT [ECM 1478] Steve has toured Europe playing at many of the major Jazz Festivals with the Carla Bley Big Band. Other performers that Steve has regularly worked and recorded with make up a wish list of the greats including:
ANDY SHEPPARD, TONY COE, VICTOR MENDOZA, MAL WALDRON, GRAHAM COLLIER, MIKE GARRICK, DON WELLER, JOHN WARREN, COLIN TOWNS & ROBIN JONES, JEFF HOOPER, ALAN BARNES, and LEE GIBSON.
He is a professor of Jazz Trumpet at Trinity College of Music in London and visiting Jazz Trumpet specialist at The Royal Northern College Of Music and The Welsh College Of Music And Drama. Steve runs his own Annual Contemporary Big Band Jazz Weekend with Alan Barnes, and also teaches on many summer jazz courses and has conducted numerous Trumpet master classes and workshops ranging in size from small groups to big bands throughout the UK and in Spain, Finland, Latvia, South Africa, and Cuba.
RALPH FREEMAN will be playing alongside Steve on keyboards.
Ralph is a pianist, composer, artist. Founder of St Ives Jazz Club, which was awarded Jazz Venue Of The Year 2015 in the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards. As well as performing with his own ensembles and various original projects, he has worked with many of Britain’s leading jazz musicians both at the Club and in London. We were extraordinaruly lucky to host Ralph’s own quartet back in January 2025.
The rhythm section features two true stalwarts of the Jazz scene, who always underpin the melodic players quite beautifully, in the form of nationally and internationally renowned Jim Rintoul on Double Bass and our very own local legend Eddie Kingdom on Drums.
